I've seen many American flown flag mementos from early and current missions. I've seen some other countries too. Were all countries represented? If I wanted, for instance, a Canadian flag, how could I confirm one existed? |

On the Apollo missions, at least, miniature flags from all UN nations were carried in the official flight kit, generally to be used in official NASA presentations to these countries. I believe this is mentioned in the Press Kits themselves. In fact I suspect that at least two sets were actually carried in case of problems when the presentations were prepared. For Apollo 15, it seems that each of the crew also carried one or more complete sets of such flags as mementos or gifts. If it's Canadian flags in particular that you're interested in I do have noted that a Canadian flag flown on Apollo 13 was sold at Aurora's Spring 2002 sale (lot 211). |

I nabbed a flown Canadian flag on the Lunar Legacies auction last month. It was shuttle-flown, not Apollo.I do recall losing out on another Canadian flag, shuttle flown, about two years ago on eBay. |

The February 1995 Superior catalog (Lot #604) had a Canadian silk flag flown on Apollo 17 presented to John Roberts the "Minister of State for Science and Technology" from Chris Kraft. |

Apart from the Apollo 15 crew there do seem to have been at least a couple of other astronauts who carried foreign flags on their missions - Lovell on Apollo 13, and Mitchell on Apollo 14.I don't remember seeing any flown foreign flags from the collections of the Apollo 7 through Apollo 12, or Apollo 16 to Apollo 17 astronauts offered for sale but I may have missed some. |

If I compare the flown 6x4 flags it seems they were sometimes different. Did not all Apollo flags were manufactured from the same company at that time? Sorry for me bad English... |

Go to the Heritage Auctions website, specifically the "Historical" section, and use the drop down menu to find "space exploration." Sign up to be a member if you are not (it costs nothing), and then under the "Reference" button use their archives. They should have the most comprehensive data on moon flown non-U.S. flags. |

I thought I’d try to bring this thread back to life. I'm aware of the sale of Al Worden's flown international flags from Apollo 15 but have any other Apollo or Gemini astronauts sold international flags on the commercial market? |

From memory, Jim McDivitt sold international flags through Novaspace. |

Taking the advice offered above and searching Heritage Auctions' archives, the Armstrong Family Collection, Ed Mitchell and David Scott also sold international flags flown on Apollo. |

I've just always wondered where and how many flown Ireland flags there are from that era. - The flag and lunar samples from Apollo 11 were lost in a fire in 1977.
- Jim Irwin presented his Irish flag from Apollo 15 to the then Irish president Patrick Hilary, it currently resides in a library in Co. Clare, and has a great little story!
- I know Al Worden sold his Irish flag through Farthest Reaches a few years ago, I was a student then and it breaks my heart that I couldn't afford it!
- The flag and sample from Apollo 17 are safely on display in the National Museum of Ireland.
I have a Gemini 11 flown Irish flag from Dick Gordon, I'd love to know where the rest of them currently reside! |

Correct me if I’m wrong Rick, but I think Al Worden's Apollo 15 UK flag is safely in your collection?! |

It is Gareth. Michael Wright owns another.Steve Hankow at Farthest Reaches did have another Apollo 15 flown UK flag that was either badly creased or marked if memory serves me right that did not sell when Al originally put them up for sale, but that was some years ago. Might be worth dropping Steve an email. |

Jim McDivitt sold a Gemini 4 flown Irish flag (with rust marks from a paperclip) back in 2012 through Novaspace. |

In 2001, bought my first moon flown item: a flown British flag. Got Al Worden and Dave Scott to sign it. |

I purchased the Apollo 15 flown Irish flag from Al Worden in 2013. It was purchased via Farthest Reaches and I remember at the time I had it in layaway and took me a few months to pay it off but I am so grateful I did.I am aware of the Jim Irwin Apollo 15 flown Irish flag presented to Patrick Hillery which is in the library in County Clare. I am also aware of a Ireland flag flown from Apollo 11 in a collection in Dunsink Observatory although its history is questionable. Also, interestingly Mary Coughlan (Irish Singer) noted that her family obtained an Apollo 17 flown Irish flag from her husband's grandfather who was called Frank Bonadio. He was president of the trade and industrial department of the AFL-CIO which was America's biggest union and he represented the men who build Cape Canaveral and the Houston space center. Apart from the Apollo 17 flown Irish flag currently held in the National Museum of Ireland that you have mentioned, I am not aware of any other flags so I make it a total of 5 known flown to the moon Irish flags including the questionable flag in Dunsink. I am sure there are more out there in private collections but to answer the question of how many, my answer is not many |
