The XLR-11 rocket engine powered a plethora of rocketplanes; the X-1 series, D-558-II Skyrockets, X-15 interim, and the lifting bodies. Some guy is selling one! Being a rocketplane fanatic, I would go for it, however, I don't think I could explain to my wife why we need this thing in our living room that doesn't match the furniture... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220041650053 Should be interesting to watch! But what a great conversation piece in your living room! Imagine getting it signed by yeager and any of the X-15 guys! Or even one of the engineers like Johnny Armstrong. I was at a small museum in Kissimmee, Florida once (where Disney actually is) and Paul Tibbets was there doing a signing. Some wag got him to sign a defused and inert bomb. Talk about a conversation piece! | |
