Since these Apollo PPK list's were private between Deke and the astronauts, I was glad to see Charlie Duke's Apollo 16 LM PPK manifest documented in the upcoming Heritage auction.

It is listed as copy, further signed by Duke and being sold with a flown pin.

Nice to see this, although it still leaves plenty of questions.

The 350 flags in a packet — was this based on a standard flag kit (136 nations, 50 US states, 25+ US flags, etc.) or was it a particular set of flags selected by Duke? As I've never seen him sell a foreign flag I'd have to suspect the latter, with multiple packs of 25 US flags probably making up the bulk of the packet.

25 medallions from G. Robbins: interesting.

A couple of the other items include PPK listings: Conrad's Apollo 12 PPK S/N 1029 and Bean's Apollo 12 PPK S/N 1068 (maybe partial).

These also raise lots of questions, particularly the handwritten notes on Conrad's PPK which appears to tot up totals of flags, gold moon pins, and other items from multiple PPKs.

Your transcription was pretty much the same as mine (complete with lots of question marks). My only addition would be:

"? [3 or 7] family ?" => "3 family picture" [sic]

Where it was corrected from 1 family picture to 3.

I didn't know Howard was allowed to sell the PPK lists he has in his possession. Still, it is cool to see some of the articles on the list.

"N. B. Baptist" ---> First Baptist Church of New Braunfels?

Duke did not move to New Braunfels until after he left NASA in 1975 in pursuit of business opportunities. I could be wrong, but I don't believe he had connections to the area before he went to the moon.

This is great stuff.

Larry - thank you for pointing out what I looked past twice. Kept seeing "Sandy" but was looking for "Ludy" or probably more for "Benjamin."

Similar to your personal Apollo 16 flag in the thread referenced below, I have a flown Texas A&M patch/lunar-surface US flag presentation dedicated to Bob Finlay (TAMU '38). Bob's daughter Priscilla married Ludy Benjamin Sr.'s son, Dr. Ludy Benjamin Jr..

Don't know if the US flag came from Ludy Sr.'s listed pack or Charlie's set of 350 but the "Ludy" on the LM PPK list adds to the story and possible sources.

Certainly, Ludy Sr. was the relationship connection behind the gift to Bob Finlay, confirmed in a nice conversation with Ludy Jr. some years ago.

The only patch mentioned in the lunar PPK is for the AFA. While Charlie knew/certified the US flag as surface, he was unsure if the A&M patch was on Casper or Orion. I'd now presume the former by omission from the list. Good to know.

I remembered something that Alan Bean told a group of us at Kelsey's while we were having dinner at the 2012 Astronaut Scholarship Foundation weekend. This is copied from my "Recollections" of that weekend in my binder.
We decided to go to Kelsey's Italian Restaurant next door and get some real food. We were joined by Leon Ford and Dee O'Hara.

After a short while later, Larry McGlynn joined our table, just as Apollo 12 Moonwalker Alan Bean was walking our way to an empty table. We respectfully invited Alan to sit with us, but he declined saying he was too tired and just wanted to have a quiet meal. Interestingly, he sat less than 6 feet away from us at a booth within earshot of our table's conversations. After a brief discussion about the (then) recent Congressional ruling, which was signed into law by President Obama, regarding the right of astronauts to keep their flown mission mementos, and in noticing that astronaut nurse Dee O'Hara was sitting with us, Alan started joining our conversation.

At one point, Bean said "You know, we took all kinds of things with us. I even had a ring someone had given me and when I got back, I couldn't remember who'd given it to me and no one ever claimed it. It's been sitting in my safe deposit box ever since the flight."

I'd be curious if that ring is mentioned in Alan's PPK list.

Bean's LM transfer PPK manifest (as included in another Heritage lot) lists a "silver diamond ring with blue stones."

One minor correction from me. Charlie had two charms from me (Dan) rather than three.

While musing on line during lock down here in the UK I stumbled across this thread once again.

After acquiring a surface flown Apollo 16 beta cloth from Charlie in 2002 I was surprised to discover no beta cloths on the list. So I sent Charlie a copy of the hand written PPK list. While the list is certainly very interesting for the record it is not complete.

Rick, Thanks for the link you sent me from Collectspace. I don't know where that list came from. It is my signature but not the complete list. I added several items as we approached the flight. I carried 25 (Apollo 16 beta cloths) and kept all of them when I returned. They were stowed in the CM for the flight to the moon. I transferred some of them over to the LM as we began our power up in lunar orbit. This was done with several light weight items. I have about half still in my collection.

To the best of my recollection the Beta patches were suggested to me by the crew systems guys so they were added at the last minute since it didn't effect the weight but by a few Oz's. Charlie.
