NASA's innovative Saturn V rocket to launch onto 2024 US dollar coin

The historic rocket that launched the first astronauts to the moon will blast off from the back of a new dollar coin in 2024.

NASA's Saturn V booster will be featured on the U.S. Mint's American Innovation $1 Coin representing the state of Alabama. The Commission of Fine Arts (CFA) and the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) separately reviewed the candidate designs and made differing recommendations to the director of the mint.

Saturn V rocket art revealed for 2024 American Innovation $1 coin

The United States Mint is getting ready to put a rocket in your pocket.

As first announced in 2022, the state of Alabama chose NASA's historic Saturn V to appear on a $1 coin as its example of American Innovation. With the dollar piece now nearing its Spring 2024 release, the mint has revealed the final design for the moon rocket-adorned coin.

An exceptionally well designed coin.

Although I must admit when first looking at it I thought the land masses were poorly demarcated. And then it dawned! That's the moon, not the Earth. ☺️

The U.S. Mint will begin sales of rolls and bags of Alabama's American Innovation $1 coin on April 8, 2024.

Proof and reverse proof sets of the 2024 American Innovation coins will be issued later in the year. The Mint seems to have stopped offering individual reverse proof sets for each coin as it did earlier in the American Innovation series.
