Has anyone seen this Air Force Systems Command Agena "Orbited in Discoverer" medallion before or know its history? One of 30 medallions made.

For more photos, including the back, see the eBay listing 114759489961.

Looks like the back says "1 of 30."

Since the front says "SAMPLE," I would not be 100% sure without further information if this specific medallion was flown or if it was a production sample made for approval only.

I do have three key fobs that detail some of the history of the Discoverer/Agena program. I have the first recovery, 100th and 200th flight key fobs; none flown.

I'm curious to know why this "flown" one has the word "Sample" though. Was it meant to be flown or was the flown fob contained "Sample" metal only characteristic to that program/flight?

Jeff, thanks, think you are correct, changed to 30.

Jason, on front says "Orbited in Discoverer," as to why thought space flown. Think this one specifically may not as says "sample" and could just be prototype for the actual medallion. Was more curious if any had one or a type like this.

All times are CT (US)
