Topic: Space medals from grandfather's collection

I found a number of medallions from my grandfathers collection. Mainly from Apollo 11. Can anyone help identify them and if they are significant? I am not sure if I want to get rid of them but would like to know what I might have.

  I have seen the posts on this one in the forum - die was flown on the mission and only about 1000 were made - correct?   |

Lastly - Here is a small coin - has no back and then a bunch of pins I found attached to his badges to get into Mission Control  Any help, advice or tidbits would be appreciated. Thank you. |

Those are a very nice set! Should you start collecting, you have an excellent start as your grandfather obviously knew what he was gathering. Please, I personally would suggest you keep them as mementos from him. They are small, take up little space, and are irreplaceable. Not that you could not find them again sometimes, but you would never have his again. Each time you see them now, you will think of him. Good memories I do hope. Should you decide to sell them, please let me know, as I collect these space coins, too. I would suggest that should you sell them, eBay will probably get you the most money vice selling them straight to someone. Space coins as well as other space related items have really risen in price in the last year. |

I don't have much info about the medals you posted, although I own a couple. I personally am very curious about the one with the formula on it. Among other things, I'd love a direct summary of it. I understand it is "rocket science" with Force and mass and acceleration, and I recognize some of the indications of velocity and so on, but I can't "read" the entire thing as a statement. A translation would be great, if someone can offer one. And as for the future of the medals, I echo the other comment — you should keep as something special within your family. If you don't, folks here (myself included) would be happy to buy various pieces, or there is eBay. |

Thank you for the feedback. I was hoping for a little bit of infomtion on each piece.On a side note — I have a stein I am guessing was given out to everyone in Mission Control? It was given to my grandfather "Flight Control Division" This is also for Apollo 11. Is this authentic or is this something someone might of personalized and given to him? |
