The Royal Canadian Mint has issued a commemorative $25 silver coin honoring the 25th anniversary of Roberta Bondar's flight (STS-42):
The Royal Canadian Mint's Bondar coin is unique because it is the first that can glow in the dark, and is one of few that are curved.
The coin shows a view of the earth, similar to what Bondar would have seen from space, with a special emphasis on Canada.
"This morning was the first time I saw it and actually held it and I thought this is phenomenal, the shape of it is really terrific, and I think the lights on it really reflect hope and inspiration for the future," Bondar said.
The outer band framing the coin's central design features Bondar's name and text highlighting the anniversary of her space mission, as well as a miniature depiction of the space shuttle Discovery as it appeared on the STS-42 patch.
The coin, with a mintage of 8,500, retails for $159.95 CDN. The coin can be purchased by contacting the mint at 1-800-267-1871 in Canada, 1-800-268-6468 in the U.S., or online, as well as at mint boutiques in Ottawa, Winnipeg and Vancouver, or from authorized dealers, including participating Canada Post outlets.

Beautiful coinage, yet think it would've been just as nice without the curvature (meant to represent the curvature of the Earth?).
