I came into possession of a large pendant that contains flown metal.
On the obverse has "The Eagle Has Landed July 20 1969" around the edge and "APOLLO 11 This medallion contains metal from spacecrafts COLUMBIA and EAGLE that took astronauts ARMSTRONG, ALDRIN and COLLINS on their historic mission that resulted in the first landing of MAN ON THE MOON" in the middle.
The reverse is blank with a number scratched in it.
Does anyone know anything about this medal/pendant? Thanks.

The wording is the same that appears on the NASA Manned Flight Awareness medallion but separated between obverse and reverse.

I remember seeing these offered on eBay.
If I recall correctly, someone decided to take a few of the NASA 1969-issued Manned Flight Awareness medals, melt them down and add them to non-flown metal to create these "limited edition" pendants.
If you consider that the original NASA medals were minted mostly from unflown metal to which a couple of spacecraft components were added, the ability to claim any flown material in these further diluted restrikes is questionable.
