mensax Member Posts: 861 From: Virginia Registered: Apr 2002	posted 04-17-2005 08:44 AM According to Russ Still's book "Relics of the Space Race," Frank Borman carried a half inch diameter sphere of an aluminum alloy in his PPK during the flight of Apollo 8. After the mission, for fear of loss, the sphere was cut in half. One of the halves was sent to be added to a much larger molten batch of aluminum, which resulted in 200,000 medallions being produced. Whew! Not a lot of flown molecules in this medallion either. So, here's my questions. Any answers or suggestions to where to try to get answers will be greatly appreciated... Are there any photos of this tiny sphere? Either of it alone, or being shown, or cut, or thrown into the cauldron? What happened to the other half of the sphere? I have heard rumor that it was broken up and that the pieces were given to prominent individuals... any truth to that? Has anyone ever seen or heard of one of these for sale?
