My father, who worked for NASA, just passed away. I am trying to find an appropriate medallion to put on his burial urn before his service on Friday, October 28th. I would appreciate any suggestions, info on resources of where I might acquire something like this. Your help would be most appreciated!!!!Annette Bailey Blocker Daughter of John Eston Bailey, 4.7.34-10.14.11 |

Can you tell us at which center he worked and an approximate time period? |

He worked as a Systems Data Analyst with Rocketdyne Instrumentation Group at NASA'S Stennis Space Center from 1978 to 1994, when he then retired.I recall him working on testing the shuttle engines and him even having accompanied one of the shuttle engines in a convoy to Cape Canaveral. He was very proud of his association with NASA! |

Given that history, it would seem the most appropriate medal would be one issued by Stennis in 2005: Stennis Space Center marks 30 years of testing Space Shuttle Main Engines. To commemorate this historic milestone, this coin contains metal shavings from a Space Shuttle Main Engine tested at SSC. Finding this medal may be difficult though; it was not sold or offered to the public... |

Does anyone know where I might begin to look for this medallion or does anyone know someone who may have them in their collection or have access to one? |

There might be a chance if you contact someone at Stennis. Not sure how much of a chance it would be. |

Recognizing it is not the medallion you are after, this might be a very appropriate picture to display. Given the 1981 date of the photo your Dad was likely involved. The picture is also downloadable. I'm sorry for your loss. |

I know someone at the company that manufactured the Stennis medallion and have asked if there is way to help you get one.Hopefully this might help! |

Andy Boston here from Winco. Since we have been swamped with end of shuttle Program projects (and more), I have not been able to visit collectSPACE for quite some time. More important, I have not been able to get some new collectSPACE promotions finalized that are long past due. I have much to make up for in this regard (and I give my word, Winco will make up for this through some great offers). Now onto the matter at hand. I logged in here as a result of an email I received from Blake Dumesnil (the great space artist and collectSPACE member who we have the privilege of working with on what will be our finest framed limited edition). Annette, Blake told me about your desire to place a meaningful medallion on your father's burial urn. Since we made this medallion for Stennis in 2005 and distribution was not authorized elsewhere, all Winco would have is a few overruns and die samples. After looking high and low, we found we had no die samples. I only had two in my personal collection (that I could find without an indepth search - I don't believe I will have any more). So Annette, I am willing to send you one of the only two remaining medallions at no charge. If you will call me at 800 543-5847 and confirm your address, I will make sure we send this medallion immediately by Air shipping. If my reply is too late, if you like, I will still send the medallion since I know it would be a meaningful keepsake for you as it would be meaningful to your dad. I hope my post is not too late and I hope and pray that God will comfort you and yours at this time. |

Although I've thanked you in email form, Andy, I also wanted to publicly thank you here as well for helping Annette out.Thank you for showing how much respect and appreciation Winco has for the space community and all of people who have achieved incredible things. I think it's safe to say that we have all thoroughly appreciated the phenomenal products you have beautifully produced over the years! |

Outstanding Andy! Yet another example of why this forum is second to none. A truly appropriate tribute to someone who dedicated so many of his years to the space program. |

Wow... all I can say is that this is a powerful place! Mr. Andy Boston replied to me, as all of you have seen on this blog, and has fulfilled my request of not only helping me to find a medallion but also actually supplying me with this medallion for my father's burial urn. I see that this is a special medallion and that it is probably rare to find... this is overwhelmingly special to my mother, my family and me. Andy and I spoke a while ago on the phone and I find him to be a very gracious man. I will never forget his kind gesture nor will I forget the overwhelming response from all of you after finding this place by happenstance (or as Andy called it "God incidence") yesterday evening, and taking a chance that someone on this blog might be able to help me with finding this medallion. Also, Mr. Blake Dumesnil, I want you to know I have a great appreciation for your kindness as well. You made the contact with Andy for me. I was given your background as a premiere space artist by Mr. Boston and feel so privileged that you would take the time and consideration of doing this for my family and me. I want to thank you all and let you know that, although I was not part of the space program but my father was, you might see me on here again. I am looking through his things now and I am finding photos, decals, letters and such from his tenure with NASA... wondering what some of them are and realizing how important they were to my father, Mr. John Eston Bailey. Rest in God's Hands Daddy! Thank you all!!!!!! |

Annette, it was my pleasure to be able to help you get in touch with Andy and I am so glad that he was helpful. When I read your initial post this morning, it really struck a chord with me.I think it is wonderful how you are wanting to honor your father's legacy and I can only imagine how proud he would be of this tribute. If there's anything else you need, I have no doubt that this community can help you with it! Best wishes! -Blake |

I just wanted to come back and say that we buried my father, medallion on his urn, with such pride in the National Cemetery in Biloxi, Mississippi. I couldn't have been prouder! One of my friends, that came to the services, and I were talking about my receiving the medallion from Andy Boston and he thinks that information is noteworthy for the local paper he works for, so it may even make it into the news.I would like to share the story of my father in his obituary. I am very proud of where my father came from and where he took his life to! Thanks again to all of you on this forum. You made a very big wish come true for me and my family!!! Annette, I didn't have any involvement and only just came upon your post. I just want to say that the trouble and thoughtfulness in ensuring your father has a fitting memorial is very touching. I lost my mum nearly 10 years ago and as I still miss her it is nice to see such a positive story.Kudos also to the cS members for helping out. Val |
