I have one of the unmanned mission medals/coins from the Caltech-JPL Numismatic Society for the Viking Lander.

A history would be nice if anyone knows the details.

Are we talking about the ones available from the JPL store?

Huh. I have a Viking one that looks quite old and has a Caltech JPL Numismatic Society inscription on the back.

I will buy a copy of it to see if the old ones are the same as the current ones. If so, oh well.

Thanks for the link!

I did receive the coins from JPL today (minus one which is in the mail).

The Viking one (and the others) have on the back: "The Caltech-JPL numismatic society commemorates achievements in space exploration."

The Viking coin shows the lander, the orbiter on the right and the dates "1975-1976 Viking."

Yep. That is what mine says. Mine looks fairly old and worn, so they must have been cranking these out for some time.

All times are CT (US)
