I was recently told that this medal contained flown metal and was hoping that someone could confirm this information. The medal was issued by the Cosmodrome Baikonur in 1990 for its 35th anniversary (1955-1990).

Tim, from what I've been seeing the medallion likely doesn't contain flown metal. The following sites are good references. |

Thanks , I do know about Jason's and Angelika's sites as I have used them to generate my lists along with a few other sites including this one. But none have ALL the flown medals listed. Thats why I put together my lists. I am working on creating a site. Any ways I did get this info from a good source on Russian medals but just trying to confirm. |

You're probably right. I'm sure there's many more coins/medallions that contain flown metal that are out there. I was thinking about it and the design reminds me of the Energia medallion. The two have similar designs and styles. Do you have any idea of the artist, for both? Maybe this could lead to an answer. |

I found it! The medallion celebrates Baikonur 35 years and made of bronze, similar to Western MACO medallions. |

There are two versions of this medal that I know of, the bronze one and the one pictured. Neither, to the best of my knowledge, contains flown metal. |

Sorry to rain on the parade but no flown metal inside!Usually Baikonur medals were minted not far from the launch site by production plants without any possibility to do a special alloy. They used only the metal they already had.

Thanks for the info, this is why I checked. I will remove it from my flown list. |
