The May 2013 issue of Coin World magazine is a special edition dedicated in part to space-flown numismatic items.
Souvenir collecting has long been a human trait, so it is unsurprising that when men began to fly into space, they took personal items with them as souvenirs, including coins and paper money. Today, these space-flown numismatic items are wildly popular with collectors, with prices that are out of this world.

In the cover feature appearing in the May Coin World Special Edition, we examine coins and notes that flew into space during the early U.S. manned space programs, from the two rolls of Roosevelt dimes that Gus Grissom carried with him during his 1962 Mercury flight, to the controversy caused by the sale of a 1793 Flowing Hair, Wreath cent that flew aboard Gemini VII.

Thanks to Rich Jurek, curator of the Jefferson Space Museum, for the heads-up!

Should be an interesting read.

Gives me the urge to go to the place we knew as the local library.
