ISS Dragon Space Station and ISS Soyuz Houston Pictorial Postmarks
Now available from the Houston, Texas Post Office are two pictorial cancellation postmarks for International Space Station (ISS) visiting vehicles.
One postmark design features the SpaceX Dragon capsule arriving at the station, while the other depicts Russia's Soyuz TMA spacecraft, which crew members use to arrive and depart the orbiting laboratory.
The pictorial postmarks were designed by Detlev van Ravanswaay of Duisberg, Germany.
Both postmarks are interchangeable date devices. Requests can be made for any event date desired from today going forward.
All requests should be addressed as follows:
ISS Dragon Space Station Postmark
401 Franklin Street
Houston, Texas 77201-9718
ISS Soyuz Houston Postmark
401 Franklin Street
Houston, Texas 77201-9718
|onesmallstep||Nice. But with the proliferation of new vehicles going to the ISS in the next few years, the postmark designers will certainly be kept busy!|
|Apollo-Soyuz||I want to give a shout out to the people who service our covers with the pictorial cancel in the above post. I have been sending covers before the Soyuz launches and they hold them until launch and provide outstanding service.|
Here is an example of their great servicing.
I just received my covers back for the launch of the Soyuz TMA-16M spacecraft.
|Apollo-Soyuz||I also want to tell collectors who send for these cancels to be very patient. These offices that offer these cancels have limited staff to service these cancels so it can be awhile before requests are returned. I just received my request back for the Soyuz TMA-18 crew that launched on September 2, 2015 serviced superbly and clearly. |
|fimych||Sorry for the dumb question - just never did this before. How exactly should I send the request? |
So, should I prepare the envelopes with the stamps, can it be any combination of stamps or just standard US postage? Should I put the envelopes into the package with the return envelope inside, and list the dates to put the cancellations? What rate should I use for the return package?
Thanks for the help!
|Apollo-Soyuz||What you would need to do is to stamp your envelopes with a Forever stamp. You will have to send individual requests with very specific instructions as to what date you want. What I do is mention the scheduled launch date in your request letter. |
I send 10 envelopes to be cancelled and include two return envelopes stamped and addressed to myself. Sit back and wait. Like I said in the above post, these offices have limited manpower so it takes time to receive back your requests.
I have been doing this ever since the cancels were first offered in 2013 and have never been disappointed with the results.
|JBoe||I'm thinking of doing this, but since the last Soyuz to reach the station was a few months ago is there a limit on back dating the cancellation? With that said, is there a cutoff date for Dragon flights?|
It would be interesting and great compliment to the possibility of a Cygnus design.
|Apollo-Soyuz||I have extra covers for the last six Soyuz crew launches to the ISS if interested. The cachets I used were similar to the ones I posted above. |
I would send covers now for the Soyuz TMA-19M launch in December now to avoid Christmas rush. Launch is scheduled for December 15.
Email me directly if interested.
|Apollo-Soyuz||I wanted to let all know my covers for the December 15, 2015 launch of Soyuz TMA-19M were received by me a week after launch. Fantastic service.|
|eurospace||I also received my covers back from the Houston downtown post office. They had been autographed by British astronaut Tim Peake and only now postmarked with the Houston cancel.|
I had sent them to Houston at some point in November and they returned last week.
|fimych||Thanks very much for the idea!|
I just got my cards from Houston, all dates are as requested - especially well fit is Valery Kubasov card for the 40 years of ASTP.
|Apollo-Soyuz||The address for sending for these cancellations has changed. Send all future requests to the following address: |
Sam Houston Station Collectors have received this new address when their requests were returned from the last Soyuz launch and was reported in the Astroaddies Yahoo Group.

|Apollo-Soyuz||I had sent a request for cancellations for the launch of Soyuz TMA-20 on March 18, 2016. I just received my package back marked "Return to Sender - Insufficient Address - Unable to Forward."|
I know the address has changed. Would I be able to resend the request? I sent my request to the original address. Thanks for any information.
Another question — Were requests that were sent to the old address forwarded to the new address? Collectors received the new address when their requests were returned. My request was returned to me and not forwarded.
|fimych||Got my cards today, all postmarked well (Apr 12, 2016). Just had a note inside the envelope - next time to send to the new address |
|Apollo-Soyuz||I just received a email reply to my request from the new office offering the cancellations and they are allowing collectors who had their original requests returned to resend them and they will be serviced. Mention in letter of request, original request was returned. |
|Apollo-Soyuz||I finally received my cancellations for the Soyuz TMA-20M on March 16, 2016. Covers were superbly serviced. Do not forget to use the new address.|
|Apollo-Soyuz||Has anybody received cancellations for the last two Soyuz crew launches to the ISS? |
I sent covers for the launch in November 2016 which was received by the post office via a tracking number on my priority mail envelope. All attempts to get in contact with that office have been to no avail. I wanted to get the December covers returned before sending other covers.
|Apollo-Soyuz||Has anybody received their covers for the previous two Soyuz launches to ISS? I cannot believe I am the only one to not get his covers back.|
|yeknom-ecaps||Think it has been over a year since I've gotten anything from them... have stopped sending there.|
|Apollo-Soyuz||Any returns? I have not received any covers for over a year.|
|Brian Dumas||I haven't kept up with the launches the way I would like, but my last submission for the Expedition 50/51 crew launch last November came back serviced.|
I did receive some covers prior to that where there was no postmark and no explanation. Since that incident I started including a letter requesting the postmark, specifying the date, and (out of an abundance of caution) including an image of the cover in the letter.
|Apollo-Soyuz||Due to employee changes, the address to send for the pictorial cancels has changed. Be specific as to what event and date you want. The new address is: |
Postmaster/Cancellations Be patient. What I do is send a self-addressed stamp envelope for return of the covers.
