|Apollo-Soyuz||I am going to hold Space Unit meetings at the NAPEX and BALPEX shows. Details to be worked out. I wanted to let you know now so one can start planning to attend. Meetings are opened to all collectors of space covers, stamps etc. Details will be forthcoming. If anybody has any questions, feel free to email me.|
|Apollo-Soyuz||The Space Unit Meeting at Napex will be held Saturday June 4, 2005. Time to be finalized. Napex is held at the McLean Hilton at Tysons Corner in McLean, Va. All cS and Space Unit members invited to attend and parking is free. |
|Wehaveliftoff||Is there a website to refer to for updates and collective information? Free parking near that area of DC is always a great lure. Will there be a first day cover? |
|Apollo-Soyuz||The Space Unit website is here. I will be updating information on meeting time when it is finalized. Hope to see you there. |
|Astro Bill||Will the Space Unit have a booth at the ASDA Spring '05 Postage Stamp Mega Event, Madison Square Garden, 4 Penn. Plaza, New York, 3-6 March 2005? |
|Apollo-Soyuz||Bill- The Space Unit usually has a booth at the Mega Event. Contact Carmine Torrissi with any questions you have as he is the one organizing the booth. |
|Apollo-Soyuz||Bill- There will be a Space unit meeting on saturday March 5, 2005 at 2PM at the Mega Event. |
|Apollo-Soyuz||I am still waiting for final dates and times on the Space Unit meetings to be held at Napex and Balpex. I will post here when I get the information as well as putting a notice on the Space unit website.|
|Apollo-Soyuz||The Space Unit meeting at Napex is scheduled for Saturday June 4, 2005 in the Mount Vernon Room from 4-6 PM. All are invited. Membership in Space Unit not required to attend. If any cS member wants information about the Space Unit, email me offlist with snail mail address and I'll send you a sample copy of the Astrophile and a membership application. I hope to meet many of you there.|
|DOX32||John, will see you at NAPEX with completed application for Space Unit.|
|Apollo-Soyuz||The guest speaker for the Space Unit meeting at Napex will be Rear Admiral Carl J. Seiberlich, former Commanding Officer of the USS Hornet (CVS-12) for the Apollo 11 and Apollo 12 recoveries. He will also autograph photos, covers and memorabilia of folks attending his presentation with limit to 2 items. |
|Kevmac||Is there an agenda for the 4-6 pm window?|
What time will Admiral Seiberlich speak — at the beginning or the end? Thank you for making this available to us. Looks like a fun event!
|Astro Bill||Good Luck John with NAPEX. Take pictures and share them with CollectSpace members and Space Unit members in the Astrophile and on this message board.|
|Apollo-Soyuz||In reply to the above post, Rear Admiral Seiberlich will probably speak in the first hour. He will give a short presentation and then answer questions.|
|Apollo-Soyuz||Just a reminder about the Space Unit meeting at NAPEX scheduled for this Saturday. I hope many local cS members attend. I will be wearing a blue Space unit hat. Feel free to come up and introduce yourself to me.|
|Apollo-Soyuz||The Space Unit meeting at NAPEX was attended by eight people (two non-members) who will be sent a membership application and sample copy of the Astrophile. |
Dennis Dillman and Vice President, John Macco received NAPEX Silver awards for their exhibits on Project Mercury and ASTP. Various topics were discussed among them the search for an Astrophile Editor.
Our guest speaker, Rear Admiral Carl Seiberlich who was commanding officer of the Prime Apollo 11 and 12 Recovery ship USS Hornet (CVS-12). He told various stories of his naval career as well as his participation in the recoveries of Apollo 11 and 12. A very interesting participant in the U.S. space program.
Next Space Unit meeting will be at BALPEX labor day weekend. Information on meeting time and room will be posted here as well as Space Unit website.
|rudi||Being from Europe reading this info just by accident in Google I signed up to reply:|
Where is this meeting taking place? Sure that I would like to attend to get an autograph from an "known" Seiberlich. — Rudi Seiberlich
|Apollo-Soyuz||Rudi- Meeting already took place on June 4, 2005. The post was a report about the meeting. Rudi, if you email me with your snail mail address, I'll send you a cover autographed by Captain Seiberlich free of charge. |
|carlweimer||My name is Carl Weimer. I am Admiral Seiberlichs Grandson (named after him)... |
I was just going over some stuff on the computer, looking for stuff on my grandfather, and I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who still stays up on this stuff. I actually wanted to talk to the Seiberlich from over in Europe... so if you read this, send me an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
I actually just got off the phone with him this morning (8:00 AM CST) and he told me there is going to be some type of Aeronautics show in D.C., I believe he already has given a presentation, but I didn't ask if he was doing one again.
Anyway, thanks again to everyone who is interested. I know your all of your interests keep him going everyday.
