T O P I C R E V I E WspaceukI know Adler Planetarium is in Chicago, Illinois, but what other space museums and sights can one visit there?rjurek349As a native of the area there are a couple of things you can do. You should go to the Museum of Science and Industry. They have the Apollo 8 command module, flown items from Jim Lovell and Frank Borman on diplay, Scott Carpenter's Aurora 7 Mercury capsule, and a moon rock from Apollo 17. It's all in the Henry Crown Space Center and Omnimax Theater. Also, you might want to try the Cernan Earth and Space Center at Triton College. I haven't been, so not sure what is on display. I'd suggest a call there, first. Any one else have any suggestions?rjurek349Wow. Looks like there are a number of exhibits at the Cernan Center, including his Apollo 10 spacesuit. Looks like I need to plan a weekend getaway myself.RodinaAlso, not strictly space — but the Museum of Science and Industry in Hyde Park (adjacent to the University of Chicago) has some great exhibits, including an entire U-Boat.spaceman1953Bellwood, Illinois is Cernan's hometown, there is a sign at the "entrance" ways, buy I never tried to find anything else.Oh, and that one time I finally got to shake Buzz Aldrin's hand in Chicago he was there to dedicate a moon rock at the Tribune Building, just north of downtown. They probably still have it, but that is a guess, at least if you go to the Tribune building, you can tour there and they have bits of famous buildings stuck in the outside walls you can see and touch. spaceukI'd forgotten about the moon rock fragment inside Tribune Building. Must see that.I offered them part of "Darwin's Millennium Space Rock" - the rock that I flew to Mir space station to commemorate Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. I had a reply that said it was going up to the president of the Tribune but never heard more from them.denali414Just up in Chicago for the Bears playoff game and the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry has an Apollo 17 rock (Glass display of Apollo 17 Lunar Sample 79155,10) on display (along with a Mercury capsule and some real good space displays).Editor's note: Threads merged.
