onesmallstepGreat that Chinese taikonaut Wang Yaping and NASA astronaut Karen Nyberg are now in space to celebrate the anniversary of the flight of Valentina Tereshkova aboard Vostok 6 on June 16, 1963.

By coincidence, Nyberg became the 50th woman in space during STS-124.

Robert PearlmanOlivier Sanguy, editor of Enjoy Space, interviewed Valentina Tereshkova in 2011 regarding her return from space and the secret she kept about it.

He presents the interview now to mark the 50th anniversary of Tereshkova's flight.

The general director of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin met with Valentina Tereshkova and congratulated her on the coming 55th anniversary of her flight and becoming the first woman cosmonaut in the world.
Also in attendance were cosmonauts Yelena Kondakova and Yelena Serova.
