[b]NASA's Management of the Mars Science Laboratory Project[/b] NASA Inspector General Paul K. Martin released June 8 a report [[URL=http://oig.nasa.gov/audits/reports/FY11/IG-11-019.pdf]PDF[/URL]] that examined NASA's management of a $2.5 billion science mission designed to investigate whether Mars has, or ever had, an environment capable of supporting life. The Mars Science Laboratory Project is the most technologically challenging interplanetary rover ever designed. The audit found significant technical, schedule, and fiscal challenges that must be resolved prior to the mission's scheduled launch in November 2011.
