T O P I C R E V I E WRobert PearlmanJAXA, Japan's Aerospace Exploration Agency, will see the launch of its first human spaceflight facility, the Kibo Japenese Experiment Module (JEM), over the course of three space shuttle missions beginning next year. Just as its three parts, the logistics, pressurized and exposed modules, will dock together, so does JAXA's logo(s) for Kibo. The three-in-one insignia are designed so that they can stand alone with each mission, noting the JAXA astronaut accompanying each flight, i.e. Takao Doi on STS-123, Akihiko Hoshide on STS-124, and Koichi Wakata with STS-127. Red circle = the earth, sun, and the Japanese flag. Blue background = the sky and the endless expanse of space beyond. STS-123 mission specialist Rick Linnehan wore a lapel pin with that logo during his arrival in Florida for his crew's launch countdown dress rehearsal:SPACEFACTS quote:Originally posted by Robert Pearlman:The largest scans I have seen thus far are via SpaceFacts They are coming from the JAXA site - but very difficult to find. I've published them in the original size.Robert Pearlman quote:Originally posted by SPACEFACTS:They are coming from the JAXA site - but very difficult to find. Thanks, found them: STS-123, -124, -127.MSSGreat patches and thanks for links.lm5eagleI have just purchased a Kibo 1J Hoshide patch from The Space Store. I love it. Does anyone know if the 1J/A STS-123 Takao Doi is/will be available for purchase?ShuttleDiscoveryI emailed The Space Store recently and they said it's unlikely they will have the STS-123 version.Robert PearlmanI do not know who made the patch offered by The Space Store, but I have seen the official JAXA versions of the STS-123 and STS-124 patches (as well as the embroidered version of the four logo insignia) and I believe they are different from the one sold. The JAXA patches are very thin (thinner than AB Emblem patches) and their border is flush (i.e. not raised) with the rest of the material. They have no tail on the reverse and are back-coated with a hard wax (the four logo version has a thin cloth, gauze-like or iron transfer overlay).lm5eagleThank you both for your reply. I guess it seems unlikely that these will be added to the collection.ea757grrlHere's a close-up of a Kibo lapel pin of the kind worn by Rick Linnehan in the above picture (still in its sealed bag, so forgive the reflections and other stuff): There are also lapel pins that match the mission-specific Kibo emblems.Robert PearlmanFor future reference, here are all four of the JAXA official edition patches: sts205cdrHere is a Kibo logo patch:Mike ZDoes anyone know where to buy the KIBO Patch for STS-127? The Space Store had it but they no longer have any. I have been looking for one for quite a while with no luck.hoorenzMore Kibo stuff:
