T O P I C R E V I E WTomAnyone know if a mission patch was designed (worn by the pilot?) for yesterdays historic flight?Thank you.Robert PearlmanMelvill did not wear a mission-specific patch. He wore the insignia of the Society of Experimental Test Pilots on his right shoulder and on his left, the emblem of Scaled Composites' SpaceShipOne Test Flight program (the design and name SpaceShipOne are trademarks of Paul G. Allen's Mojave Aerospace Ventures): (Note that Allen has only authorized The Rocket Boosters, a non-profit coalition of organizations in and around Mojave, to sell online SS1 insignia products. As of yesterday, a patch was not among those items offered. Since this is a commercial project, the designs related to the program are not public domain and cannot be reproduced for commercial purposes without a license from Mojave Aerospace.)sts205cdrI just received this reply to my inquiry:"I can say with a reasonable certainty that there will be a patch in the near future. We will attempt to let you know, but in case we don't, check back with the website occasionally between now and the X-Prize flights. Thanks! --The Rocketboosters Team"--JohnBill HuntOne thing that's worth noting is that the patch Space Boosters has offered in the past is NOT the same as the actual patch that Melville and Binnie wore on the flights (which is pictured above). The actual flight patches have been offered on eBay a few times (I managed to get a set of them that way), but they're tough to find.------------------Bill Hunt[Edited by Bill Hunt (September 27, 2006).]lucspaceHi Bill,If a set means you have several copies... would you be willing to part with one of them? If not, a hi-res scan would make me happy too...LucBill HuntActually, by set I mean that I have the SpaceShipOne patch and the White Knight carrier plane patch as well. Just one of each I'm afraid. Let me see if I can scan them.------------------Bill HuntBill HuntHey Luc,Haven't forgotten about you. Just having trouble getting a good photo. I have my patches framed under glass in a display, so it's taking a little work to get you good images.------------------Bill HuntlucspaceHey Bill,That's very much OK, I really appreciate your efforts!Luc
