I think the video of the packaging is really cool, let's hope that the Lego Hayabusa will have greater appeal to the international market than the Bandai Hayabusa did.

It seemed that the Bandai model was not of great appeal, could it be the price?

If so I hope that Lego would have better luck with their Haybusa.

LEGO launches asteroid spacecraft model chosen by fans
The world's first spacecraft to collect samples from the surface of an asteroid and return them to Earth, Japan's Hayabusa mission probe, is now available as a LEGO toy thanks to a homemade model and its thousands of fans.
The Denmark-based LEGO Group announced Friday (March 2) that its Hayabusa 369-piece building set has now gone on sale in Japan. A limited number of the sets will be made available worldwide through LEGO's online store at a date still be decided for later this year. The model retails for $49.

As a matter of fact, I just picked one of these up last night. I returned to hotel with this, and then saw the headline on the homepage.

I'm in Tokyo on business and was wandering around a shopping area here (Venus Fort) and came across a Lego store that had these on the shelf.

I didn't realize it was this brand new, as in first day of release brand new. Talk about being in the right place at the right time!

It's a fun build, in part because the step-by-step instruction book also includes sidebars about the science instruments and other equipment you're building.

LEGO sent collectSPACE a sample model to build a few weeks ago, which is how we had our own photos ready for the release yesterday.

LEGO may make Mars rover Curiosity toy after 10,000 fans vote
NASA's Curiosity Mars rover took a giant leap this weekend toward becoming an official LEGO toy.
Early Saturday morning (Aug. 18), a do-it-yourself model of the car-size, six-wheeled rover that is now on the Red Planet received its 10,000th vote of support on the LEGO CUUSOO website. The model of Curiosity, which features a working "rocker-bogie" wheel suspension, was designed by a mechanical engineer who helped build the real rover.
"What a cool Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity Rover model and a very timely LEGO CUUSOO project!" wrote the LEGO CUUSOO team on the page profiling the model. "Congratulations on achieving 10,000 supporters. We now officially advance this project to the Review phase."
