T O P I C R E V I E WdsenechalI'm in the process of building a 1/48 scale Mercury Atlas model. Does anyone have any pictures that show the rear end of the Atlas WITHOUT the booster section. I'm trying to replicate the details of the sustainer engine, wiring, Atlas tanks, etc. In lieu of that, if anyone has the Apogee book Atlas: the Ultimate Weapon by Chuck Walker, perhaps you could let me know if it contains pictures of this area. Thanks.Davemikej quote:Originally posted by dsenechal:if anyone has the Apogee book Atlas: the Ultimate Weapon by Chuck Walker, perhaps you could let me know if it contains pictures of this area.It has a few pictures, but I doubt if they'd be much help.On page 47 is a diagram which looks like it was taken from an Nth generation photocopy of a diagram of the boattail and aft end; it has the fuel staging disconnect, sustainer fuel and oxidizer lines, aft bulkhead, jettison track, and staging disconnects all labeled. The second color photo section shows a number of missiles in storage; one of them appears to have had the boattail and the sustainer engine removed, so there aren't many details to be had.Page 229 has a picture of the SCORE Atlas in orbit. It's a small picture, and the missile appears to be in direct sunlight, so it's hard to make out details. (I spent a few minutes Googling "SCORE Atlas missile", but couldn't find this picture online; you may be more motivated than I :-)I could scan the pictures from the book and email them, if you'd like. Also, I have a number of pictures of inside the boattail of the Atlas at the USSRC. I took them through the plexiglass on a sunny day, but they do show a fair number of details of this area. I could also email these if you'd like.art540I have some factory images on 8 x 10 I could scan and e-mail to you. It might take awhile to get all together but I could send you 3 very quickly.ArtdsenechalMany thanks to mikej and art540 for the scans and pictures that you sent. They were perfect - exactly what I was looking for. Yet another instance where "collectSpace'ers" save the day. Thanks again. Dave
