ManInSpaceJim, great video. Thanks for posting it.
Jim_VoceThank you Jim for the video and yes, Gemini astronauts used the new crew quarters in MSOB starting in 1964.

Still there is the question of why there were two sets of bunk beds in the Hanger S crew quarters when only two beds were needed. I suspect the the Mercury prime pilot slept in bunk bed number 1 and therefore had the choice of sleeping on the upper or lower bunk and that the back-up pilot slept in bunk bed number 2 and had the choice of using the upper or lower bunk.

And here is an open question — does anyone know how many beds were made available the the new crew quarters in the MSOB during the Gemini era?

Jim BehlingI answered that, the bunks aren't just for the flight crew. There may be multiple astronauts visiting the Cape during non mission timeframes. Also during a launch, there are other astronauts at the Cape serving roles such as Capcom and chase planes. Also, the backup crew doesn't sleep at the same time as the prime crew. They are up earlier configuring the cockpit before a launch.

The number of beds has no relation with number of flight crew members.
