Let's see if the Bruins can win another cup. This Boston Bruins' Stanley Cup flag had a fantastic journey just like the Bruins did in 2011. Just after the Bruins won the 2011 Stanley Cup, I approached some people to have this flag flown in honor of the Bruins winning the cup.
The flag was purchased in a sporting goods store in central Massachusetts and then mailed to Johnson Space Center. One of the astronauts was kind enough to throw it in their stuff and off it went to the International Space Station where it stayed until it return via SpaceX's Dragon flight in May 2012. What a historic trip this flag took.
The Bruins and the space program have a rich history together. The CEO of Delaware North Company (DNC operates the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex for NASA) also owns the Bruins. They have hosted numerous astronauts at games and have helped with local reading initiatives.
An astronaut also once took up a Bruins jersey and pretended he was Bobby Orr scoring the winning goal in 1970.
During the months after the 2011 Stanley Cup finals, the cup even made it its way aboard an orbiter and sat in the commander's seat!
Cool piece this is...
