T O P I C R E V I E WSpacebugSir Arthur C. Clarke survived the coastal devastation of Sri Lanka, his home for the last 40 years. dss65Very glad to hear that--I had been concerned about him. Thanks for sharing.------------------DonrandyThat's great news! Thanks for the info.star51LActor Jet Li also survived, with minor injuries also...gosh, the magnitude of this is hard to comprehend; latest updates have over 50,000 dead...and rising.ScottHere is a link with 4 incredible videos. Click on the links below each picture (or you can do a "Save Target As" on each of them). http://www.dagbladet.no/nyheter/2004/12/28/418730.html A very frightening phenomenon to be sure. A third of the way through the second video there are a couple of people who appear to be relatively safe, but then they are swept away.[This message has been edited by Scott (edited December 28, 2004).]Robert PearlmanFlorian Noller (Spaceflori.com) will be traveling to the area affected by the tragedies to deliver/volunteer aid to local relief funds (he was scheduled to vacation in the area before the earthquake and resulting tsunamis hit). Before he departs next week, he has started a sale on his website wherein all proceeds will be donated to those in need.[This message has been edited by Robert Pearlman (edited December 29, 2004).]Rob JoynerRobert, thanks for the info about Flori's effort. Thanks again for doing this, Florian!

From Sir Arthur:
Thank you for your concern about my safety in the wake of last Sunday’s devastating tidal wave.
I am enormously relieved that my family and household have escaped the ravages of the sea that suddenly invaded most parts of coastal Sri Lanka, leaving a trail of destruction.
But many others were not so fortunate. My heart-felt sympathy goes out to all those who lost family members or friends.
Our staff members are all safe, even though some are badly shaken and relate harrowing first hand accounts of what happened. Most of our diving equipment and boats at Hikkaduwa were washed away. We still don't know the full extent of damage -- it will take a while for us to take stock as accessing these areas is still difficult.
We are encouraging concerned friends to contribute to the relief efforts launched by various national and international organisations. If you wish to join these efforts, I can recommend two options:
