ejectrIt's thoroughly amazing that Shepard's daughter will basically undergo the same thing her father did as America's first astronaut. Maybe not as high and the recovery ops, but the ride — AND, unlike him — she'll have a window that she can see out of. Bet she never thought she'd ever have this experience.
Grounded!Laura bears a strong resemblance to her father.
Robert PearlmanFrom Blue Origin (via Twitter):
Let's light this candle! We put Alan Shepard's famous words on the crew access gantry for the astronauts to see just before getting into the crew capsule.
perineauIt's great to see Wally Funk, William Shatner and now Al Shepard's daughter reach space, but I wonder about the real historical importance or if it I=is not just some kind of multi-million dollar ongoing publicity stunt.
Robert PearlmanFlying celebrities and other notable people is absolutely a publicity stunt for Blue Origin, but it doesn't take away the real experiences these people are having and then sharing with the rest of us.

the historical importance of these flights may only become clear in the future, when they can be put into context with the advent of the commercial spaceflight industry.

Robert PearlmanBlue Origin update
NS-19 now slated for Saturday, Dec. 11

Due to forecasted winds on Thursday, December 9 and Friday, December 10, the New Shepard launch team has made the call to delay the launch of NS-19 to Saturday, December 11. Liftoff from Launch Site One is targeted for 8:45am CST / 14:45 UTC.

The team has completed Flight Readiness Review and confirmed the vehicle has met all mission requirements for launch. Astronauts will complete training today and weather remains as the only gating factor for launch.

Hart SastrowardoyoVideo on Lane Bess and subscriber-only, but here's the accompanying article. I got them to include another New Jersey connection, that Shepard attended school in Pine Beach.

Robert PearlmanHello from Van Horn! This will be my first time covering a Blue Origin launch from on site so I'll share updates as I can...

Robert PearlmanGood morning from Blue Origin's Launch Site One, where there is a New Shepard rocket on the pad and a chill in the air! Launch preparations are underway for an 8:45 a.m. CST liftoff.

Robert PearlmanIn a word: awesome. Launch, booster landing and capsule landing all unfolded in front of us here at the Launch Site One press site.

Next stop: the booster landing pad to interview the crew.

GACspaceguySo cool and so glad for you getting to be there! What are your thoughts on public viewing sites? (By the way, I think the RR Auction sponsorship is brilliant)
Robert PearlmanAs of now, Blue Origin does not support any type of public viewing on site and I believe the road leading into their facility is closed a few hours before launch.

That said, the launch and returning capsule can be seen from the surrounding area. The clerks at the hotel I stayed at last night said they could clearly see the booster after it cleared a mountain ridge and then could see the capsule descending under parachute.

And thank you for mentioning RR Auction. They were very kind to support our coverage of the launch.
