T O P I C R E V I E Wjm6662Got my photos back from my holiday in Florida, where I was lucky enough to see the launch of STS-100 and meet Story Musgrave. If anyone has had the fortune to have met him I am sure they would agree he is very approachable and an extremely nice guy. When we met him there were not many people at the "Meet an Astronaut" session at KSCVC, only about 10 of us, and we spent at least 10 minutes in his company discussing his family history and his time as an astronaut. He claimed he was 100% English as both his parents came from the Bath area.zoomerukI fly out to Florida in two weeks and I too hope to meet him at the Astronaut Encounter. Did he sign anything for you?WAWalsh I had the opportunity to listen to Story Musgrave and then speak with him briefly several months ago at KSC during an Astronaut Encounter. I do not know if it was specific to that day or just me, but he respectfully declined to sign that afternoon. Part of the problem might have been the other employee, who ran a strong interference after each program. I mentioned it to another employee as we were talking and she stated that that was unusual and that Dr. Musgrave is usually very friendly and forthcoming.jm6662 quote:Originally posted by zoomeruk:Did he sign anything for you? No I didn't ask him to sign anything for me at the time. But as mentioned before he was extremely pleasant and didn't come across as forced or just humouring us. Perhaps it was because there were only a few of us, and I'm sorry to say, several of those kept talking during his presentation and seemed totally oblivious to this mans achievements. If you are going to KSC DO NOT miss the Astronaut Encounter, and get in early for lunch with an astronaut. Let us know how you get on.David 82Just for the record, Story does not sign through the mail. I do live about 15 minutes from KSC and I am also an annual pass holder. Also, for those with questions regarding his in-person signing habits at KSC. Dr. Musgrave has always been a very generous signer after each encounter session. It is on a very rare occasion that he does not take several minutes out for photos and autographs. I hope that this helps.rail3cardsI had an opportunity to enjoy a presentation by Astronaut Story Musgrave this morning on Staten Island, NY. It was a business meeting and his lecture focused on building a strong team, addressing difficult business challenges, and being your best everyday. His lecture linked his experiences as a child growing up in Kentucky and his experience working at NASA. His slide presentation of space was just terrific.Afterwards, he was very gracious and signed items for a few of us that waited around to speak with him. Dr. Musgrave was very approachable and easy to speak with. A class act!It was very enjoyable to hear him speak.dss65Good for you!MrSpace86Agreed. Story Musgrave is a very great speaker and is very approachable. One of the best!COR482932Does anyone know if Story Musgrave signs through the mail?Help greatly appreciated as I am about to send to him. Said I might as well give it a go! Editor's note: Threads merged.eurospaceStory Musgrave only signs very sporadically through the mail. You really need a good story or have a special link to him. ilbassoI seem to remember reading in another thread on here a couple of years ago that Story threw out an envelope (with a multi-signed piece) from someone whose name he didn't recognize, even though the sender had previously confirmed Story's willingness to sign. Don't send him anything valuable!!albatronLong considered to be an excellent signer through the mail, I recently had my items returned unsigned. I had also enclosed some T-38 items as I know he has a great fondness for the bird - that he returned as well. Anyone else had the same experience or have an idea why?Editor's note: Threads merged.Rob JoynerI've always thought Musgrave was extremely difficult to get through the mail. Having heard that, I emailed him years ago about getting something signed for two of my nephews. He replied that he didn't do "cold signings" through the mail. That said, he is very generous when at KSC. From personal experience, I can say that he'll pose for photos and spend quality time to talk with his fans, signing anything and everything.jemmyI contacted Mr. Musgrave via email back in 2010 requesting could I send him a photo to have signed by him. He replied saying "Send it with a prominent reminder that I okayed it on e-mail" (this his exact words). I sent it registered to the address he had given and included cash for return postage (this was due to living outside of the US). Also included was a note kindly thanking him for my request and also referring to his email that he gave me the OK to send the photo. Due to the item been tracked I know it was received at the address given but I have never seen my photo or cash since. I have since emailed Mr. Musgrave a couple of times and included a copy of the tracking of the item and his email OK-ing my request but I have never heard anything back, not even I am sorry it must of got misplaced or I am really busy. I would never send any autograph request to an individual without getting permission first and I thought emailing him first was the most polite thing to do. It a shame that even after agreeing to sign a photo for me and sending it to him, I heard absolutely nothing. Okay, I would accept it if I sent it without any pre-contact or even a reply to say "Never received it" but this was not the case.I know these men are very busy and have more things important on there agendas than signing photos, maybe the photo arrived on a bad day. That said "don't give up on a request" but for me I will not be requesting an autograph from Story Musgrave again.
