Volunteers with Virgil I. Grissom Memorial Inc. have been opening up his family's small bungalow house in the Lawrence County town of Mitchell to visitors at least two Saturdays a month. Group president Steve Grissom told The Times-Mail that members hope to make the house look as much as possible like it did when his cousin was growing up there. Items already on display in the house include the bed from Gus's bedroom, a gun he bought while he was in high school and his father's chair. A shop manual with Grissom's name in the front was recently donated to the house. "We have the basics, but it would be nice to have other pieces that were at one time in the home," Steve Grissom said.
