The establishment of the Schmitz-column was completed in 1969. That same year, on July 21, (at 3 hours 56 minutes and 20 seconds a.m.) the American Neil Armstrong became the first man to put his left foot on the moon. This was at a distance from the Schmitz-column of 389999 km and 100 meters. (Calculated by the Institute of Space Research of the City of Bochum) Neil Armstrong, Wernher von Braun and NASA are knowledgeable of and grateful for this pillar inscription.
